The vast majority of research, theorizing, and practical advice associated with followership has come from a trifecta of countries (USA, UK, Canada) with a “white” middle-class (male?) perspective. Through a combination of invited panelists and direct audience participation, we will use attendees existing experiences to interrogate what it means to follow from around the world and from a minority perspective. The initial set of panelists will be experts in followership who bring important perspectives to the table such as an African-American perspective, experts from Eastern Europe, Asia, and sub-Saharan Africa. As people join or leave the panel from the audience, the composition of will change to reflect the diversity of the audience. Panelists will tackle questions such as: “How do conceptions of followership differ and converge with those in Western literature?” and “What are the implications of followership norms in different communities?”
